Sesame Orange Lassi by Faring Well #vegan #recipe

Poor Scott arrived home Monday morning, after being out of town for a week, with a terrible head cold that lead to the dreaded sinus infection. The first thing I made him when we got home form the airport was this lassi. Thanks to the sweet orange this drink is full of immunity boosting vitamin C, and healthy probiotics from the plant yogurt too. There is a little bite from the sesame, and the banana rounds it out to an all around creamy consistency. This was my first try at a lassi and I can see why they are so popular! It tastes like pure sunshine, and while I can’t help but associate it with golden summer, I know this will also be wonderful in the winter months when our immune systems are down and the sun is a bit weaker in the sky.

For the longest time it has been my dream to sell everything we own, buy and adventure mobile, and take a year off to explore every NP in America. Now The Outbound has done all the planning for me! I’m loving this road trip map.

I’m itching to try making my own water kefir, and think this fall I might finally take the plunge. It seems so easy and healthy. Plus, anything that makes me feel like a scientist I’m all about.

Makes 2 servings. 

2 ripe bananas, medium in size
2 oranges
1 cup plant based yogurt (plain & unsweetened)
2 to 3 tablespoons pure sesame butter (use un-hulled for stronger sesame flavor)
1/4 teaspoon ground vanilla bean
pinch of ground cinnamon

Place all of the ingredients in a high speed blender and puree until silky smooth. Serve right away, or store in an airtight glass jar in the fridge to chill. Best if enjoyed within 24 hours of blending.

    I love using tahini/sesame seed butter in smoothies, so I imagine that this lovely and bright drink will be right up my alley. I hope Scott is feeling better very soon!

    Loooove the links in this post, Jessie! I just got lost daydreaming about tiny houses after clicking on that article…that tiny home is so dreamy! Aaron and I even drew up plans for our own tiny house when we were exploring NPs this past year. The question: where to put it?? We couldn’t figure out how to (legally) make that work. Anyway, I hope Scott is feeling better. That sesame orange lassi sounds pretty darn perfect. xo

      Yay! Thanks Amanda! We are two tiny house loving gals. I super adore this one too. If you Google it there are quite a few articles to help with the nitty gritty of how to put one of these on some land! Still genuinely considering it too. Would be SO neat!

    Pure sunshine in a glass! Hopefully this wonderful dose of vitamin C did the trick and both of you are feeling better. I don’t have pure sesame butter but I think subbing cashew butter would be right up my alley.
